Nomination of the Maiden Over as an Asset of Community Value

Clive Jones, Liberal Democrat prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Wokingham has worked with Local Camera members to stop the Maiden Over public house becoming a Tesco.

"I have been aware of the possible closure of the Maiden Over for a few days and have worked with two Liberal Democrat members of CAMRA to nominate the Maiden Over as a community asset. says Clive.

I had considered making the application in the name of the Liberal Democrats, but was advised that this would not have been correct.

Clive said, Hopefully this will stop any development of the Maiden Over site by Tesco. My feeling is that we don't need another local store in the area. We already have several Tesco's, Sainsbury's, Co-ops and of course McColl's. we don't need more.

If anything we have a lack of local pubs .

The Maiden Over has been an important part of the community in Earley for many years. Certainly for all of the 40 years that I have lived in the area".

Clive Jones has written to the Chief Executive of Wokingham Borough Council asking them to issue an Article 4 Direction which will mean that planning permission has to be granted for the change of use from a public house to a convenience store.

Wokingham Borough Council has confirmed receipt of CAMRA's nomination of the Maiden Over as an asset of community value.
