Wokingham’s Conservatives Don’t Do Local Democracy

Wokingham’s Conservatives showed they don’t do local democracy by using their votes to stop last night’s Council meeting at 10.30pm, preventing any discussion at all of items raised by the Lib Dems.

Cllr Prue Bray (Winnersh ward) said “because the February Council meeting is kept for the budget, the next chance the Liberal Democrats have to raise these topics is not until March when it will be far too late for them to be discussed. We think there should be a Council Meeting in January to plug the gap between November and March but instead the Conservatives have chosen to limit debate.

We wanted to raise issues that are important to residents such as consultation on the Wokingham Town Centre Regeneration, the future of Hurst Golf Course, and improving the Council’s customer service, but the Conservatives didn’t want to discuss any of them. The Conservatives refuse to hear any voices but their own. They are so unwilling to be held to account that they won’t even engage in debate with us. “
