Community Notice: Car Crashes on Lower Earley Way, Meldreth Roundabout

We are concerned about the continuing, high level of car accidents occurring on Lower Earley Way where it connects by roundabout with Meldreth Way.

Following recent investigations it has became apparent that Wokingham's Highways Department has not been giving - in our opinion - accidents at this junction a high enough priority.

Instead, we've learned, it has been considering upgrading the round-about near the hotel, which considering the number of accidents occurring at the Meldreth Way is clearly wrong.

Please call in every accident you see at this junction to Thames Valley Police on 101 (telephone) and ask for a Unique Reference Number (URN).

Having discussed the matter with local Police and Wokingham's Head of Transport (Conservative Councillor Keith Baker) it would appear that accidents occurring at this site are not being reported because they do not involve other cars or serious injury, and therefore the council has no "official" record of a problem.

Therefore, we've been working with the Earley Neighbourhood Action Group(NAG)  & local Police Officers to persuade Keith Baker and Wokingham's Highway's Department that this is a genuine problem. We think they're starting to get the message,  but we need your help to make sure they "Get it".

How Can you Help? Please call in every accident you see at this junction to Thames Valley Police on 101 (telephone) and ask for a Unique Reference Number (URN).

We would also be very grateful if you could take a photo, a license plate number and email the details to us on contact@earleylibdems.org so that we can make sure these accidents are being recorded properly.

We hope now that we have raised this issue that the Council will eventually fix the problems with this roundabout before somebody gets seriously hurt, but unfortunately this is not the first time this matter has been raised with the Highways Department, hopefully it will be the last.
