The number of people in work in the UK has equalled a record high showing we are on the road to recovery, Clive Jones said today.

The employment rate has never been higher as the number of people in work reached a record high of 73.1 per cent only hit once before in 2005.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said between March and May 30.64m people were in work, 254,000 more than between December and February and 929,000 more than a year earlier.

In the Wokingham parliamentary constituency there are now 66,000 people in employment aged 16+. there are now only 662 people claiming Job seekers allowance in Wokingham.

Clive Jones said: “This news sends a powerful message that this country is on the road to recovery, following Labours disastrous running of the economy.

“More people up and down the country are in work as we build a stronger economy and a fairer society.

“There are two million more people in private sector jobs, fewer unemployed young people and more women in work than ever before.

“Thanks to the Lib Dems there have also been a record number of new apprenticeships.

This is good news for Wokingham and would not have happened without the Liberal Democrats being in government.”
